Matthew Herbert, LJ Hooker Gungahlin

Matthew entered the industry in 1981 joining the family business at L.J. Hooker Belconnen as a property manager. Within two years he had moved to the sales environment enjoying instant success and then to an ownership role in 1984. From 1986 to 1989 Matthew played an integral role in the opening of offices in Kippax and Kaleen, before moving to open the Dickson office in 1990. Since then he has been responsible for the opening of Gungahlin, the resurrection of the Canberra City branch and the launch of L.J. Hooker Project Marketing (ACT).
Matthew has received many performance awards over the past 25 years, including many sales and office performance awards, however, his career highlights have been:
  • International Marketing Award (2001)
  • Sir Leslie Hooker Award (nominee) 1994, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010
  • Franchise Owner of the Year 2002 and 2006
  • Sir Leslie Hooker Award 2007
Today Matthew has a direct involvement in the offices at Dickson, Kaleen, Kippax, Canberra City, is based in the Gungahlin branch and works closely with the team at L.J. Hooker Project Marketing. He is the group's chief auctioneer and together with the group's auction team submits over 250 properties to auction each year
  • In 1995 he was an inaugural member of the L.J. Hooker Admirals Club which recognizes the top 10 % of Franchise owners internationally, a position he has continually held until today.
  • In 2001 he was elected by his peers to sit on the ‘Franchise Owners Council’. As one of 8 councillors who represent over 600 offices in an advisory capacity in developing the franchise offer with the Franchisor.
  • In 2007 he was elected Vice President of the ‘L.J. Hooker Franchise Owners Council’ and appointed to the Board of Directors for L.J. Hooker Franchising Limited, becoming President of the Council in 2008. He served on the L.J.Hooker Franchising Ltd Board for three years before stepping down from the Board and the Council Presidency at the end of 2009.
